West Fisiología respiratoria. Fundamentos es un título popular y bien posicionado, considerado una obra de referencia en fisiología respiratoria.

Su primera edición se publicó hace ya 40 años, y se ha traducido a 15 idiomas. La obra se compone de 10 capítulos que abordan la anatomía básica, los conceptos físicos y dinámicos de la ventilación y el paso del oxígeno a la sangre por difusión, así como las diferentes condiciones que se experimentan en el funcionamiento de este sistema como el flujo sanguíneo, las relaciones ventilación/perfusión, la dinámica de fluidos de la sangre, la mecánica ventilatoria, el control de la función ventilatoria y dos interesantes temas de aplicación de conocimientos: el sistema respiratorio bajo estrés y pruebas de función pulmonar.
